Seeking Principal for North America Government & Public Affairs in Oregon
A key leadership role is open for someone to champion policy and political interests in Oregon’s Portland metro region.
Who is being sought?
A Principal for North America Government & Public Affairs (NA GPA) is needed at the World Headquarters (WHQ) near Beaverton, Oregon. This director-level position will draw on company resources and expertise to support Nike’s policy and political needs throughout Oregon. The ideal candidate must be a strategic leader, adept at managing a fast-paced workload, prioritizing effectively, and responding to challenges with a positive outlook.
What will they do?
This role involves leading relationship management with mayors, city councilors, county officials, and state legislators in the WHQ region. The principal will track legislative and regulatory activity, provide intelligence, and drive advocacy efforts, with a strong focus on the City of Portland, City of Beaverton, Multnomah and Washington Counties, and state government stakeholders.
Who will they work with?
Collaboration will be key, partnering with various internal Nike teams across North America and globally. This includes Government & Public Affairs, legal, tax, trade, retail, real estate, digital, sustainability, supply chain, manufacturing, facilities, HR, communications, and social impact teams. Building and maintaining an external network with government officials, chambers of commerce, industry associations, and other stakeholders is also crucial for advancing policy goals.
What are the qualifications?
- Bachelor’s degree in Political Science/Public Policy or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Over 10 years of government and public affairs leadership experience in Oregon, with a focus on the Portland metro area, spanning public and private sectors.
- A proven track record in building strategic coalitions and managing projects within the Portland area and with the state legislature.
- Expertise in key policy areas such as tax, trade, digital, and sustainability.
- Experience developing and implementing political contribution and engagement plans for the Portland region and at the state level.
- Ability to perform detailed analysis and provide high-level reporting.
- Experience advising senior executives.
- Established relationships with government representatives in Portland, Multnomah County, Washington County, and at the state legislative and executive levels.
- Proficiency in representing the company publicly in professional settings.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, both oral and written.
- Knowledge of ethics, lobbying, and campaign finance reporting compliance.
- A passion for sports is preferred.
