Solid waste collection is a priority task for the Common Base Business Unit (UEB) of the municipality of Candelaria. Its director Jesús Rivera Álvarez explains that in order to carry out these tasks as effectively as possible, in urban and rural areas, there is an intensive planning of the workforce and the equipment, in correspondence with the limited budget that is possible for the next three years . assigned to the entity.
To collect in the urban area, they have a brigade of four workers and a tractor, which operates four days a week, alternately on streets and routes. With only five workers, they cover the tasks of plowing, sweeping, collecting and cleaning the park and 31st Avenue (Central Highway). They also have a crew, including a tractor, located in the community of Las Terrazas and nine forklift drivers who are in charge of collecting in the rural areas of the municipality.
Rivera Álvarez specified that “even when this planning is communicated to the district delegates and we can count on their help to spread among the residents, sometimes due to the breakdown of tractors or other reasons, the schedules cannot be collected at home and in the area. neighbors throw the garbage in places not specified for him.
“Therefore, they contribute, he said, to social unrest and the promotion of landfills that generate vectors and are therefore threats to health, as happens, for example, in the area near the railway terminal. This is one of the public’s repeated concerns, which has not yet been resolved and could be resolved with the agency’s own inspection team,” he explains.
The manager recognized the support given by the authorities of the Party and the government in the municipality, which makes it possible to maintain the work of cleaning and collection of solid waste and participate in new tasks, such as the 17-kilometer plow on both side of the Highway, all this, despite the difficulties that remain in the economic order and the many problems that must be addressed with priority in the territory.
