(ANSA) – ROME, MAY 09 – Waiting times are a priority, but on an equal footing with the quality of the service offered, for more than 8 out of 10 interviewees; then fundamental (for 70% of the sample) is the coverage by the National Health Service (NHS), the simplicity of booking and its cost. These are the main results of the survey underlying the 2nd edition of the Doctolib.it Barometer on health management by citizens, which this year focused on booking methods in the last 2 years in 5 regions of Italy (Lombardy, Lazio, Piedmont, Campania and Sicily).
The survey, commissioned by Doctolib.it (which is a free app for managing your health) to Ipsos, was conducted on over 1,000 citizens between 18 and 70 years old. The survey also shows that for 6 out of 10 interviewees the possibility of knowing in advance the amount to be paid, the notoriety or previous knowledge of the healthcare facility or the staff, the ability to download one’s report online and last but not least the distance from one’s home are factors that can influence the choice of the healthcare facility to turn to. It is interesting to note how, although present, word of mouth (recommendations from relatives or friends) is less relevant today: it is cited as an important driver of choice by just over 4 out of 10 interviewees.
In the last 2 years, among the methods most used by interviewees, telephone booking was the most widespread (59%) even if those interviewees who preferred online (46%) were overall more satisfied. In-person booking remains, still used by 43% of the sample. Clearly, the generational factor has a strong influence on the chosen method, with respondents in the 18-34 age group using online in a higher percentage than the average – 51% versus, for example, 38% of the over 65s – and, vice versa, 64% of seniors prefer telephone booking compared to 56% of younger people. Not only that, it is important to note that for more than half (52%) of over 65s, booking in person is still the most used method. “Not in all the regions analyzed – states Nicola Brandolese, CEO of Doctolib Italia – the picture is the same but we are certain that the use of digital represents a fundamental opportunity for the population, from the North to the South of the country. This is demonstrated by the fact that 46% of those interviewed already book online and that the level of satisfaction with this method is always above 80%, with peaks of over 90%”. (HANDLE).
