Priscila Hurtado, new Zonal Health Coordinator 7 – Ministry of Public Health

Carmen Guerrero, Vice Minister of Public Health, installed Priscila Hurtado in the position of Zonal Health Coordinator 7, which includes the provinces of Zamora Chinchipe, Loja and El Oro. The event took place in Quito this Friday, April 21, 2023.

The new authority is a specialist in Health, Safety and Occupational Health Services Management. She is an obstetrician by profession with experience in managing obstetric risk factors and research. She has served as director of the area and of the Health District in the province of El Oro, which allows her to have knowledge of the zonal territory.

Vice Minister Carmen Guerrero predicted success in the management of the new authority. “A Zonal Coordinator is key for national actions to become effective in the territory.” She added that she will lead the coordination of processes, technical and administrative activities that guarantee comprehensive care and provision of health services in the assigned provinces.

After the oath of possession as Zonal authority of the MSP, Priscila Hurtado thanked the opportunity to serve in this sector of the country. “I have experience in health management and I will dedicate all my time to join the zone team so that health services reach all the people who live in Zone 7,” she emphasized.

To date, the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) has assigned a budget of $10 million dollars to this area for the purchase of medicines and medical devices.

Likewise, between January and April 2023, 169 health professionals were hired, including general practitioners, obstetricians, nurses, nutritionists, pharmaceutical chemists, medical technologists, psychologists, therapists, and others. Also included are 11 family doctors and 12 community facilitators for Loja and Zamora Chinchipe from the Intercultural Health Project.
