Private jet that stopped responding in France crashed off Latvia

It is a drama that Internet users have been able to follow live or almost. That of the crash of a plane, now confirmed, as unfortunately left to fear the latest flight data of the device. According to information from the Bild newspaper, the plane took off from Jerez, in southern Spain. Registered in Austria, it was supposed to land in Germany, in Cologne. But nothing went as planned.

Contact was quickly lost with the aircraft, shortly after crossing the border with France. The plane, a Cessna 551, was escorted by French and then German air police during its passage through Belgian, Luxembourg and then German airspace.

“Alert by the Spanish authorities of probable difficulties in pressurizing the aircraft, the Lyon Mont Verdun National Air Operations Center (CNOA) ordered the take-off of a Rafale on alert”, but “attempts to make radio contact were proved unsuccessful” and “visual contacts did not allow us to observe any activity in the cockpit”, details the French Air Force in a press release. In Germany, approaching Cologne, a Lutwaffe Eurofighter took over to watch the aircraft.

Eventually, around 7:45 p.m., the plane began to plummet at a dizzying speed of 8,000 feet per minute (about 40 m/s), over the Baltic Sea. The device fell “when it ran out of fuel,” said Lars Antonsson, the Swedish rescue chief who went in search of the device. The nationalities of the four people on board were not disclosed.

According to Lars Antonsson, the Latvian rescue teams are directing the operations at the scene of the tragedy, with the help of a plane and a helicopter from the Swedish coast guard. “No human remains have been found,” he said. The reasons for the tragedy remain unknown for the moment. “We have no explanation, we can only speculate,” added Lars Antonsson. “But on board, they were clearly unable” to react. Latvian authorities have made no statement regarding the crash.
