Abu Dhabi: Ministry of Manpower Indigenization requires private sector firms to provide skilled jobs to UAE nationals under the Indigenization Act. It was also directed that skilled candidates should not be appointed to unskilled posts.
According to the law, private companies with more than 50 employees must employ 2% indigenous people. The ministry’s reminder comes two weeks before the deadline given to companies. It is proposed to increase the Swadeshi ratio to 10% by 2026.
A company that violates the law will be fined Dh72,000 per year. Benefits including reduced work permit fees have also been announced for companies employing more than the prescribed limit.
