Children displaced by Gaza war and doctors thank pro-Palestinian protesters at US universities
Children in displaced persons camps in northern and central Gaza showed their gratitude Wednesday to Palestinian students on college campuses across the United States who were protesting the war in Gaza.
In a video recorded for CNN at a camp in Deir al-Balah, in central Gaza, it shows several children holding signs with the names of American universities where pro-Palestinian demonstrations have taken place in recent days, with the caption: “Thank you for your solidarity!
Some had messages that said: “Your voices hit the wall of silence and reach the victims in Gaza,” and “Thank you to the brave students in American universities, thank you for supporting Gaza. “
Nadia Al-Dibs, a mother behind signs, told CNN that she is grateful to the “brave students” at American universities for their solidarity with Gaza and for calling for a ceasefire.
“The Arab communities did not take care of us, and the students of American universities felt that we shed the blood, our buildings that have been hit and our children whose lives have been destroyed … thank you very much,” said.
Aoun Khattab, a displaced man in Deir al-Balah expressed his gratitude to American universities and called for continued protests on behalf of the Palestinian people.
“I ask Arab and European universities to do the same… to ask and advocate for an end to this war and a permanent ceasefire,” he said.
At a separate event in Deir al-Balah, in front of the Al Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, doctors, nurses and medical staff also gathered to thank those who were protesting the war in Gaza.
They carried signs with messages such as “Thank you to the students who support our cause”, “Thank you for your solidarity”, “United against genocide”, “The killing of children must be stopped” ”, “Keep fighting for justice”, and other signs with the names of the universities.
Dr. Saad Abu Sharban told CNN that he came out to thank pro-Palestinian protesters in the United States. “When we saw our students from all over the world doing these things, we were very happy, because we believe that there are people all over the world who know what is happening here in Gaza right now, ” he said.
Similar expressions of gratitude were seen last Wednesday in a video from the camp of displaced people in Jabalya, in northern Gaza. Children were seen carrying Palestinian flags and holding signs in Arabic that read: “My colleagues at Columbia University, we thank you for supporting us to stop the crimes of Israeli occupation” and “we have destroyed Israel’s occupation, stop the war so that we can resume our education.”
Another banner listed several American universities, including one in Paris, saying “continue the pressure to stop the war in Gaza.” Other banners thanked countries around the Arab world for their “solidarity with Gaza.”
The young people gathered around each other, spoke into microphones and asked for an end to the war in Gaza.
“Students in Gaza universities have lost an academic year of their lives… we want to send a message of gratitude and thanks to everyone who supported us and opposed the genocidal war in Gaza… who opposed the injustice and protect freedom, ” said one child.
He also said that they felt the impact of the protests that “exposed criminals” by putting pressure on the Israeli occupation.
“We want you to continue your protests and we want all the students from the universities around the world to support us until the war stops… thank you, we are very proud you,” he said.
Another child thanked the students in the United States for their support, asking them not to stop until the brutal war ends and the “political and financial support for the criminal entity” ends.
“We have the right to live freely like every other community in our own State with its own borders, to have our own universities and institutions without restrictions or sieges,” he said.
