Erfurt – Winter is just around the corner, temperatures are already falling below freezing at night. But for ten families in a house on Spittelgartenstrasse, the heating remains off and the water is cold!

“When I wanted to run bath water for my children on September 24th, only cold water came,” said house resident Sina Groß (36). The educator lives with her husband Gerhard (55) and their two daughters Madleen (5) and Michelle (17) on the second floor.

In the past few months there have been repeated problems with the property management and the owners. The municipal utilities have already threatened to stop electricity and gas supplies. Now the central heating in the basement is also broken.

Landlord ignores calls

“Despite several calls a day to the property management, we were always put off and put off,” says Sina Groß. Finally, the managers announced that they were no longer responsible for the house as of October 7th.

The family then contacted the responsible Brandenburg real estate company. On October 26th, three heating technicians from Potsdam were at the door, but then discovered in the basement that the device was ready for scrap. They were only able to get the heater to work for six hours.

“The next day we went into the basement and smelled that something was burning,” said Sina Groß. In the subsequent conversation with the real estate company, the house was promised a new heating system; we were just waiting for an offer from the company.

Daughter Maddy already has a cold

But there has been radio silence since October 30th! The family told BILD: “The employee no longer responds to emails, WhatsApp messages or calls.” For seven weeks now, the family has been heating their apartment with four fan heaters left over from camping.

They also bought a hot water boiler for 100 euros and installed it in the kitchen. In the shower you can only wash with buckets. Meanwhile, the heaters in the bathroom, living room and both children’s rooms run for hours every day, driving up electricity costs.

Nevertheless, little Maddy has now caught a cold, is coughing and has a runny nose. Her mother: “We are afraid of becoming constantly ill and therefore missing work. And then of course there are the costs.” By contacting BILD, the family is hoping for a quick solution and finally a warm apartment again.

A request from BILD to the real estate company has so far remained unanswered.
