Guatemalan procession in the United States

Since Sunday morning, the faithful gathered at the Santo Tomás del Apóstol Parish for the activities prior to the procession, such as the making of a carpet that was placed in front of the temple.

Around noon, the procession began its journey around the parish, filling the streets with devotees from different countries, including Guatemala, El Salvador, Mexico and Venezuela.

The holding of this procession was announced in January, when registration for the procession was announced. In addition to the processional procession, a Penitential Via Crucis was also carried out with the image on February 29.

About the image of Christ the King of Candelaria

In Guatemala this procession takes place during Holy Week, its creation is attributed to the Spanish Juan de Aguirre. The temple where it is located is the Church of Candelaria in Guatemala City.

Due to his dark complexion, parted lips and green eyes, the image of Christ the King of Candelaria is also known as the Nazarene of the Serene Look.
