With the release of Requiem this year, I feel like the first 10 years have come to a close, so I think the conclusion will come in the next 10 years,
said Capcom executive producer Jun Takeuchi, as the overarching narrative of the Resident Evil franchise approaches a definitive conclusion following the release of Resident Evil Requiem and the completion of a decade-long branding concept established during the development of Resident Evil 2.
Jun Takeuchi Outlines a Decade-Long Timeline for the Series Conclusion
Speaking in an interview with Yahoo Japan, executive producer Jun Takeuchi outlined studio plans indicating that the overarching story tying the games together could wrap up in the next 10 years
(according to IGN). The current narrative arc of Capcom’s flagship survival horror franchise is heading toward a deliberate finish line. Takeuchi connected this milestone directly to the release of Resident Evil Requiem, which launched in February 2026 and serves as the ninth mainline installment.
Senior Managing Executive Officer Jun Takeuchi — who worked on the graphics for the original 1996 game — also recalled early development limitations and the resistance faced when Resident Evil 4 shifted away from the traditional mansion setting to a rural village while introducing an over-the-shoulder camera, as noted by Twisted Voxel. He similarly described Resident Evil 6 as lacking a fresh identity due to being a collection of ideas from prior entries. The strategy driving the modern era of the franchise traces back to the development of the Resident Evil 2 remake, when Capcom first established a 10-year branding concept. According to executive statements, the overarching plot was never entirely mapped out from the beginning; instead, the narrative expanded organically with each successive title, making the narrative order of the remakes a deliberate piece of a larger puzzle.
The series’ story wasn’t planned out from the beginning; it expanded with each new game. When we were planning RE:2 and creating a 10-year branding concept, this was the most challenging aspect. If you play through all of them, I think you’ll realize the meaning behind the order of the remakes.

Financial Milestones Shape the Road From Biohazard to Requiem
Total worldwide sales for the franchise have surpassed 218 million copies. Meanwhile, Resident Evil Requiem achieved the title of the fastest-selling game in the series’ history, pulling in 8.51 million copies and generating over $500 million in revenue as reported by IGN. Half of Capcom’s top-selling titles during the first half of its 2027 fiscal year belonged to the Resident Evil catalog, driven heavily by sales of the RE2 remake, RE7, RE4, RE3, and Requiem.
The franchise experienced a creative and commercial revitalization following the release of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard in 2017, a project Takeuchi took charge of at the request of Capcom’s chairman to restore the series’ foundational fear through a first-person perspective. That pivot revitalized player interest, paving the way for a string of successful modern remakes and mainline entries. Twisted Voxel added that while the first-person perspective made horror more immediate, some players found the experience particularly frightening, whereas Resident Evil Requiem builds on that approach by letting players switch between first-person and third-person perspectives while starring newcomer Grace alongside returning character Leon Kennedy.

Multiple Upcoming Titles Schedule Before the Story Closes
Takeuchi assured fans that multiple projects are currently in development to bridge the gap over the next decade.
With the release of Requiem this year, I feel like the first 10 years have come to a close, so I think the conclusion will come in the next 10 years. I can’t say, because it would spoil the fun for everyone, but there won’t be just one. There will be multiple titles.

Upcoming releases on the near-term calendar include a remake of Resident Evil Code: Veronica, titled Resident Evil Veronica, which is slated to launch in 2027 alongside an anticipated story DLC for Requiem noted by EGW News. According to insider Dusk Golem, that upcoming story DLC for Requiem will be connected to Resident Evil Veronica, with mentions of a possible cameo by Leon S. Kennedy and the appearance of Zeno. Additional insider reports and industry rumors point toward potential future projects arriving around 2028 — including a Resident Evil Zero remake and a remake of the original game — though Capcom has not yet issued official release dates for those further initiatives.
