Commerce State Minister Ahsanul Islam Titu blamed the sudden rise in prices of vegetables and other daily commodities in different parts of the country and Friday’s rain. On Friday, the price of green chillies rose to Rs 400 per kg due to continuous rains on Friday. Along with all types of vegetables, onion prices are also on the rise.
He said this at a press conference organized on the occasion of the National Export Trophy awarding ceremony at the TCB Auditorium on Saturday (July 13). Commerce Secretary and EPB Chairman were present at this time.
State Minister of Commerce said that 18 districts of the country are experiencing floods at this time. Apart from this, crop fields have been submerged due to rains across the country. It has also affected the market. The price of the product has increased slightly. This is temporary and will soon become normal.
He said, we are investigating what the Ministry of Agriculture is doing, what measures and steps have been taken after the flood. We have a committee in the Ministry of Commerce. We will talk to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture. Steps will be taken regarding what can be done to control the prices of these products quickly.
The Minister of State for Commerce said that no businessmen will be allowed to unfairly syndicate by capitalizing on the rain or flood situation. As you know, during the current tenure of the current government, no businessman could syndicate in the last six months.
He said, the situation that has arisen with the commodity prices is not for any syndicate. You have seen, there is no situation to sell products sitting in raw market. The supply of water and products is not going well in the fields of the country. We will still be monitoring. We are always ready to take any tough measures.
