Production halted at Al-Feel oil field, more fields likely to close

by times news cr

Bloomberg, citing informed sources, revealed that production has stopped at the Al-Feel oil field in southwest Libya.

This closure comes a day after the Sirte Oil and Gas Production and Processing Company and the Waha Oil Company announced the start of a gradual reduction in oil production due to “continuing protests and pressures.”

The two companies warned of a complete halt to production if the protests continue, calling on the competent authorities to intervene to protect the continuity of production.

News of the start of the oil field closures led to a rise in global oil prices by about 3%, and the price of Brent crude futures rose to $81.32 per barrel.

During his meeting with the Minister of Oil, the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dabaiba, stressed the need to follow up on the conditions of the oil fields and not allow them to be closed under flimsy pretexts, calling for those who close the oil to be held accountable and referred to the competent authorities.

In contrast, the Prime Minister, Osama Hamad, appointed by the House of Representatives, declared a state of force majeure on all oil fields, ports and institutions, halting oil production and exports.

The oil shutdowns come in protest against the Presidential Council’s decisions regarding the appointment of a new governor and board of directors for the Central Bank of Libya.
