Since the Chennai-Pongal gift package distribution is over, cardholders can purchase essential food items from any ration shop from tomorrow.
Ration goods can be purchased only from the store allotted to the address on the card. Due to this, migrant workers suffered. Thus, the facility of card holders to purchase goods at any ration shop has been introduced.
Ahead of Pongal, 2.19 crore rice card holders were given Rs 1,000 cash, kg of sweet rice, sugar and sugarcane each in ration shops.
The gift pack and this month’s items were delivered to the address on the ration card only at the designated store.
As the gift package distribution is over, next month’s food items will be distributed from tomorrow.
They can be purchased from any ration shop, not just the shop allotted to the cardholders address.
