The Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) recommended consuming fruits y vegetables seasonal, which will also achieve savings in family spending.
He recalled that in the last quarter of the year, in the markets you can find, among others, products, peaches, guava, lemon, tangerine, apple, grapefruit, grape, tejocote, strawberry, jicama, lime, cane, sapodilla, cherimoya, Chinese pomegranate, black sapote, banana, pear, papaya, chard, avocado, eggplant, beet and pumpkin.
Acquiring seasonal products is much cheaper because they were produced in their natural cycle, the supplier did not spend on conservation and storage and they have greater nutritional property, because they are at the right moment of ripeness and are tastier.
It is very important to choose fruits and vegetables appropriately, so Profeco recommends checking that, for example, the skin of avocados is free of defects; check the color of the tail; if it is yellow, it is on point; green, it is immature and if it is brown, it is past.
He explained that in the case of apples, you can check their ripeness by pressing them in the center, sIf the flesh is firm or the skin wrinkles slightly, the apple is just right.
When buying lemons, you should choose those with smooth, firm, shiny skin and an intense green color, so soft or dry pieces will have to be discarded.
He specified that in the case of bananas they should not have bumps or bruises, we must avoid those that are excessively soft. The presence of black or brown spots and points on the skin does not affect the fruit quality.
When choosing tomatoes, make sure they are not too soft, bruised, or have green or yellow areas near the stem. For tomatoes, leave those with spots and damaged skin.
