Stralsund (dpa) – Tour de France stage winner Nils Politt sees Germany as a sports location at a disadvantage compared to other countries because of the strict corona restrictions.
“The Germans were extremely strict about events in contrast to other countries. It has to be said that the sport has suffered, ”said the Cologne professional cyclist of the German press agency.
The four-day Germany Tour starts on Thursday in Stralsund. Apart from the German championships, it is the first professional race in Germany since the Münsterland-Giro on October 3, 2019. Most recently, the Cyclassics scheduled for Sunday in Hamburg were canceled, as in the previous year. The classic in Frankfurt was canceled once and postponed once. The Germany Tour also paused last year.
“There were definitely races in the other countries, and other sports had their competitions too. There was a relatively long break in Germany. That was a shame, but that’s how it was decided, ”added Politt. Some of the three big tours, as well as almost all international classic bike rides, had new dates during the pandemic.
