Prohibited parts found in Huawei smartphones

Analysts from the research company TechInsights discovered components manufactured outside of China in the Huawei Mate 70 series smartphones. This was reported by the South China Morning Post (SCMP), Day.Az reports with reference to Lenta.ru.

Engineers from a Canadian company found in the Huawei Mate 70 Pro a 12 GB DRAM RAM module manufactured by the South Korean company SK Hynix. Experts also discovered a 512 gigabyte NAND module in this smartphone, also manufactured by a company from South Korea. It turned out that similar parts are used in the more expensive Mate 70 Pro Plus smartphone.

According to SCMP journalists, Huawei’s use of parts from foreign companies in the production of smartphones is prohibited due to US sanctions. It was also believed that the brand’s new phones consist of 100 percent domestic components – Huawei CEO Richard Yu spoke about full localization in early December.

Media specialists suggested that the Chinese IT giant used foreign parts because, under sanctions restrictions, it could not produce its own. Huawei declined to comment on the report. SK Hynix said it has “strictly complied with relevant policies since the announcement of the restrictions against Huawei, and has also suspended all transactions with the company since then.” Huawei has been under US sanctions since May 2019.
