Project Tiger: Three-day mega event on 50th anniversary: ​​PM to inaugurate

New Delhi: A three-day mega event to mark the 50th anniversary of the country’s tiger conservation program will be held in Karnataka. The event to be held in Mysore on April 9 is organized by the Union Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the programme.

This event conveys the message of India’s commitment to wildlife conservation. Project Tiger is crossing 50 years. India’s tiger conservation has cultural significance. The Ministry said that for its success, it is necessary to showcase a mega event to garner public support. The ministry added that apart from tiger census, commemorative coins will also be released.

Project Tiger is a project started in 1973 to protect the country’s tigers from extinction. The project was launched on April 1 in Jim Corbett National Park in Uttarakhand. At present there are 17 tiger reserves in 28 states. The total area of ​​tiger reserves in the country is 37,761 square kilometers. Nagarjun Sagar Tiger Reserve in Andhra Pradesh is the largest tiger reserve in India. The smallest tiger reserve is Pench in Maharashtra.
