Last Wednesday, April 17, at the Crystal Palace of the Municipal Decentralized Autonomous Government of Riobamba, a provincial meeting of great relevance for the Federation of Indigenous and Peasant Women (FEMICACH) was held.
The event had the notable participation of various authorities and leaders from the region. Among those attending were Arianna Tanca, Minister of Women and Human Rights; Rosa Lemai, President of the Federation of Indigenous Peasant Women of Chimborazo; Pilar Fernández, Women’s Political Coordinator; Mariana Salas, Director of the Women’s House; María José Pinto, from the Women’s Secretariat; Estefany Camelo, Director of Social and Human Development Management; councilors of the municipality of Riobamba, Nancy Santillán, Galo Falconí, Wandy Villamarín; Silvana Vásquez, advisor to the mayor of the Municipal Government of Riobamba, and Mesías Usignia, leader of the province of Chimborazo, among other representatives. During the meeting, Minister Arianna Tanca shared an exciting project called “Las Perchas Violetas”, aimed at providing economic opportunities to peasant and rural women. Tanca expressed: “We are working on a project that we have called the Violet Hangers, the violet hangers that will give the peasant woman, the rural woman, a space on the hangers of the most important chains in this country so that they can market their products. without intermediaries, directly from the countryside to the city.” She highlighted the importance of women’s economic independence as a means of breaking the cycle of violence. The Minister also emphasized the commitment of the Ministry of Women and Human Rights to work tirelessly to guarantee a country where all women can live with dignity and freedom, building a prosperous future for all. The meeting was an enriching space where leaders from different sectors came together to promote development and gender equality in the province.
