Tamil Nadu ration shop employees have been insisting on fulfillment of their demands such as concessions, promotion, filling vacancies etc. Several discussions have been held with the Registrar of Co-operative Societies in this regard. However, the demands of the ration shop workers have not been fulfilled so far.

Recently, the cooperative department directed the zonal joint registrar to give promotion on seniority basis to the salesmen working in ration shop, weigher, junior assistant. A case was filed in Madras High Court for violation of this order.

Following this, the Registrar of Co-operative Societies has sent a circular to the Zonal Joint Registrar in which he has directed them to send the details of the promotions given so far to the ration shop employees working in their zone. It is expected that further steps will be taken regarding promotion based on this detail.
