As part of the promotion of sexual and reproductive health and rights, 37 young Beninese lawyers are benefiting from capacity building. For the organizers of the session, the objective is to train a new generation of human rights defenders committed against gender-based violence (GBV).
Initiated as part of the PLURIELLES project, the intensive training in international human rights law deals in depth with issues of sexual and reproductive health as well as the fight against GBV. “ “The program offers young women in particular the accompaniment and support necessary for them to gain confidence, which will also enable them to assume the role of leadership in various fields”, explained Achille Tokin, monitoring, evaluation, learning and accountability manager of the PLURIELLES project in Benin. The training session is spread over two weeks with internships in law firms for the benefit of the participants.
An opportunity for participants
The forty participants in the training are particularly enthusiastic. For them, it is a unique opportunity to enrich their knowledge on the subjects developed. In fact, expectations are very important. “My first expectation is to strengthen “my knowledge and skills in sexual and reproductive health and to have the chance to be among the people selected to go on an internship in a law firm in order to complete his training”. , confides Christelle Tchenou, one of the participants in the training.
It should be noted that the PLURIELLES project mainly aims to strengthen sexual and reproductive health and rights in Benin, Burkina Faso and Mali. It is funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC) and implemented by a consortium formed by Santé Monde, Lawyers Without Borders Canada (ASFC) and the Société de coopération pour le développement international (SOCODEVI), three Canadian organizations.
