Sivakasi : In the 25 days after the property tax reform in Sivakasi Corporation, Rs 1.75 crore tax has been collected. The Commissioner said that property tax revenue has increased by 75 percent due to the increased tax.
There are 53,911 types of property taxes in Sivakasi Corporation such as houses, commercial establishments, factories. Property tax collected till March 2022.
By redefining work, 2022 Apr. No tax was collected for the first six months. Tax collection did not take place due to increase in property tax, upgradation to corporation status etc.
In order to redefine property tax, information such as property details, building size, land size etc. was obtained from the people and verification work was carried out.
In this case, property tax redefining work is completed in September. Taxation is being levied as per the increased property tax from 22.
Accordingly in 25 days Rs. 1.75 crore tax has been collected. When it was a municipality, Sivakasi received Rs 7 crore and Thiruthangal less than Rs 2 crore from property tax.
At present, through the increased tax collection, the corporation has raised up to 75 percent Rs. 16.71 crore revenue is available.
Commissioner Krishnamurthy said that revenue through property tax has increased by 75 per cent after the restructuring.
The enhanced property tax collection has started from September 22. As the people gave correct details, the redelineation work was soon completed.
Officials have been directed to complete 100 percent tax collection within the specified period, he said.
