Bad news for owners. The property tax notices arrive, and they promise to be very painful. It is from this Wednesday, August 30, for taxpayers who are not paid monthly, that they will be put online in the Individual spaces of the site. Impots.gouv.fr. For those who are paid monthly, they will arrive later, from September 22. As for those who have chosen the paper option, they should receive it between August 23 and September 26.

By how much is it increasing this year? One thing to remember: wherever you live, whatever the surface, your tax will undergo a minimum increase of 7.1% this year. This is an automatic increase, linked to the revaluation of rental values, itself indexed to inflation. But it is experiencing its strongest growth in thirty-six years, according to the National Union of Property Owners. “As a general rule, we are more around 1 to 2%, last year it was 3.4%”, recalls Jérôme Barberet, director of studies at the FSL firm, specializing in financial information for local authorities.

Municipal rates that are added to inflation

But that may not be all. Because to this generalized increase, you will have to add that voted by your municipality or your intermunicipality. In some of them, the rates have risen sharply: + 51.9% in Paris, + 25% in Grenoble, + 14.3% in Metz, + 10% in Limoges… One municipality in five sees the amount climb in 2023, according to the Association of Mayors of France (AMF). In Toulouse or Lille, he does not move. And in a few very rare cases, such as Compiègne or Tarbes, it is down.

In 2023, “large cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants have increased their tax rates by 10.5% on average, specifies Jérôme Barberet, using the figures from the study carried out by the FSL firm. But these data include the record increase voted by the City of Paris. Without the capital, the increase is contained at + 1.7% (and 1.4% for all cities at the national level, all sizes combined)”, he nuances.

To find out the exact change in the amount you will have to pay, you must add these municipal rates to the general rate of 7.1%: in Paris, the total increase will therefore be 59%, in Grenoble 32.1%. , in Metz by 21.4%… The payment deadline is set between October 16 and 21, depending on whether you pay electronically or not.
