Prosecutor General’s Office on the criminal case regarding the crash of the AZAL plane

Investigative measures are continuing in the criminal case initiated on the December 25 crash of an AZAL Embraer 190 aircraft flying from Baku to Grozny near the city of Aktau.

“According to the instructions and orders of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev has been in intensive contact since the day of the incident with the Prosecutor General of Kazakhstan Berik Asylov, the Prosecutor General of Russia Igor Krasnov, the Chairman of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin, as well as the Prosecutor General of Brazil Paulo Gonet.

Also, in order to fully, objectively and comprehensively investigate the incident, large-scale investigative actions were carried out at the scene of the incident with the participation of professional investigators and specialists from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Russia and Brazil,” the department said in a statement.

During negotiations with his Kazakh colleague Berik Asylov, after exchanging views on the issue of legal assessment of the collected evidence regarding the incident, he thanked for the comprehensive support provided during the inspection of the scene of the incident, the collection of preliminary evidence in the case, as well as the study of other significant circumstances, and the necessary joint investigative and procedural actions, as well as to fully establish all the details of the incident.

During a conversation with the Prosecutor General of Russia Igor Krasnov, the Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan noted that the employees of the Azerbaijani prosecutor’s office sent to Grozny were provided with the necessary support from their Russian colleagues, and emphasized the need for effective cooperation in the investigation of the criminal case and the exchange of evidence collected by both parties in the case .

Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia Alexander Bastrykin, having called the Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan Kamran Aliyev, said that in order to complete, comprehensive and objective investigation of the criminal case being investigated in Russia, an investigative group consisting of professional investigators and criminologists has been created, emphasizing that the circumstances and reasons incidents, including a plane crash as a result of external influences, are being thoroughly investigated, and intensive investigative and operational activities are ongoing to identifying the perpetrators and bringing them to criminal responsibility.
