Prosecutor’s Office denounced that the ELN planned to assassinate prosecutor Francisco Barbosa

The Attorney General’s Office denounced this Tuesday that within the ELN guerrilla, which is currently carrying out peace talks with the Government, a plan was being prepared to attempt the life of prosecutor Francisco Barbosa.

The accusing entity made this situation known and supported the version of the attack against the Attorney General of the Nation with information in which the intelligence of the Military Forces, the CTI and an official of the Judicial Police agreed.

According to the version handled by the Prosecutor’s Office, the attack would have been carried out between five high commands of the ELN guerrilla who would have met in July in Venezuela and alias El Rolo was identified as responsible for coordinating the perpetrators of the crime.

“In said country, training is being carried out for members of that organized armed group to carry out an attack with snipers, under the coordination of alias El Rolo, leader of an ELN urban front,” the Prosecutor’s Office detailed in a statement.

Regarding this action, the investigative entity stated that it is a modality that is part of the modus operandi of the ELN attacks, according to the probative information that it has collected in various investigations.

In addition, the Prosecutor’s Office stated that the alarms for the possible attack against Barbosa were set off because movements of money were recorded that are similar to those made by the ELN to perpetrate the attack against the General Santander Police Cadet School, in 2019.

“The three sources indicate that people close to “el Rolo” present suspicious reports of transactions that exceed 3,000 million pesos, in flows of money that are similar to the attack on the School,” said the investigative body.

After reporting on the planning of this attack against Barbosa, the Prosecutor’s Office explained that it delegated the investigation of the case to prosecutors attached to the Specialized Directorate against Criminal Organizations.

“The investigation of these facts will be carried out, in order to corroborate the information, collect the necessary evidence and adopt the decisions that correspond by law,” said the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation.

ELN upset by report of non-compliance with cessation

These accusations by the Prosecutor’s Office against the ELN guerrillas occur in the midst of the controversy that broke out this Tuesday after the peace delegation of that illegal armed group questioned that the Public Force reported violations of the bilateral ceasefire.

The spokesmen for that guerrilla expressed their disagreement with the declarations of the commander of the Military Forces, General Helder Giraldo, who reported at least six violations of the cessation by the ELN.

“So far we have six alleged violations by the armed group of the National Liberation Army (ELN) which will be verified by the Monitoring and Verification Mechanism,” General Giraldo explained.
