Islamabad: Currently, rebellion is being witnessed in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (POK). People are out on the streets against the government of Pakistan. Clashes were witnessed between protesters and police, in which a sub-inspector of Pakistani police was killed. A strike was announced in POK capital Muzaffarabad on Saturday against police action. The shops remained closed during this period. Normal life was affected by this. There has been a clash between security forces and protesters. Shop closure and Chakka Jam strike was announced in PoK on Friday on the call of Jammu and Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JKJAAC). Police fired tear gas shells and also opened fire on the protesters. Saturday’s strike spread across Samhani, Sehansa, Mirpur, Rawalkot, Khuiratta, Tattapani and Hattian Bala areas of PoK. There has been a clash between police and protesters in Muzaffarabad. The protesters also fired towards the police, killing Sub-Inspector Adnan Qureshi. This has made the situation in POK even more tense. JKJAAC had called for a strike after the sudden police arrest of their leaders in Muzaffarabad and Mirpur.

Videos of direct fighting between police and protesters have emerged from PoK. It is seen that the protesters are pushing the policemen from the mountain. Apart from this, there have been videos of policemen being chased and beaten. He is running away from the crowd to save his life. Pakistani government has imposed Section 144 in PoK. Despite this, thousands of people have taken to the streets. Such pictures have also come in which it is seen that PoK police is targeting and shooting at people. JKJAAC demands that the electricity of PoK should be given to the people of Pakistan. In such a situation, tax should not be imposed on electricity in PoK.
Why is there protest?
The committee had earlier announced plans for a long march towards Muzaffarabad on 11 May. JKJAAC is a rights forum of PoK, which is protesting against the heavy taxation by Pakistan. A similar strike was organized in August last year also. PoK Chief Secretary Dawood Muhammad Barach was already anticipating such a demonstration. On April 22, he had written a letter to the Secretary of the Home Department in Islamabad asking for six CAF platoons for security.
