Tension at Youth Congress Protest March in Thiruvananthapuram

A protest march led by the district committee to the secretariat in Thiruvananthapuram turned tense as police fired water cannons at activists protesting the arrest of Youth Congress state president Rahul Mangkoothil. The march, which was inaugurated by MLA Shafi Param, saw activists attempting to overturn barricades, leading to clashes with the police.

The protest continued for an hour, with activists sitting on the road and refusing to disperse. Shafi Parampil, speaking on behalf of the Youth Congress, stated that they are prepared to accept legitimate police actions, but will strongly react if the police align themselves with the actions of the ruling CPM party.

Outrage was also directed towards C.I B.M. Shafi, who had allegedly punched the shirt of the arrested Rahul Mangkoothil. Protesters demanded to know his whereabouts, and tensions rose as activists confronted the police. Some activists even shouted at the police, claiming they could identify the officers if they were not in uniform.

The incident has sparked strong reactions from the Youth Congress and has brought attention to the growing tensions between the political parties and the police in the state. The arrests and clashes are likely to further inflame the already tense political climate.
