Relatives and children allege that they asked the bank for money for Philomena’s treatment but did not give it. Philomena was undergoing treatment at Iringalakuda Taluk Hospital. They were shifted to Thrissur Medical College due to serious illness.

A year has passed since the Iringalakuda Karuvannur bank scam came to light. The chargesheet in the case investigated by the crime branch has not been submitted for a year.

On July 14, 2021, news of a shocking fraud came out from a small village called Karuvannur. More than 312 crore rupees deposited in the bank for various purposes such as money saved from long exile, pension money of retirees, daughter’s wedding and education were stolen by the employees and some members of the management committee. In the inspection conducted by the high-level committee, serious irregularities were found in the bank.

The investigation revealed that fraud was committed in the bank’s loan disbursement, monthly investment plan and business operations. The Crime Branch team investigating the case has arrested the employees who stole crores, six middlemen and eleven members of the Left Governing Body. Sixteen co-operative officers suspended for failing to detect fraud were reinstated.

While the bank claims that it has started the process to return the money, it has not released the information of who paid the money. Efforts to revive the debt-ridden bank also failed. Eighteen cases have been registered by the crime branch so far. Charges have not been filed in even one of them. The crime branch team only hopes to submit the charge sheet within three months.
