Protesters gathered under the bridge on Bulgaria Blvd. in Sofia. The citizens explained that the reason for their dissatisfaction is that for months no action has been taken regarding the repair of the overpass of the Sofia Ring Road (SOP) on “Bulgaria” Blvd. to “Boyana” quarter.

The protesters explained that at the end of May they reported that one of the support columns of the bridge facility at the “Boyana” road junction was compromised. On May 30, the Mayor of Sofia, Vasil Terziev, announced that it is imperative to stop traffic under the bridge facility on the Sofia Ring Road in the direction of Mladost district. According to experts of the University of Architecture, Construction and Geodesy, we have a serious problem, the mayor said then.

Earlier today, the Deputy Mayor of Sofia, Ivan Vassilev, announced that traffic under the bridge on Bulgaria Blvd. will be restored in September. At the moment, we have taken actions on emergency support of the facility. The work started yesterday, an excavation is being made to ensure the possibility of a concrete foundation on which to stand a scaffold to support the bridge, explained the deputy mayor. He assured that the Metropolitan Municipality is doing everything possible to make the repairs happen in the shortest possible time.

We have gathered today because months after the Metropolitan Municipality closed the cloverleaf bridge facility, they are doing nothing. This is what Dobromir Tasev, the organizer of the protest, said. He explained that yesterday the regional administration of “Vitosha” was on the spot, and according to Tasev, they came “to dig a hole and take a picture”. They announced that they are starting to repair the facility in order to strengthen it, Tasev added.

“We waited for three months and nothing was happening,” said the organizer of the protest. He explained that after a hole is dug, a foundation will be made to repair the facility. “The concrete they will pour will be about 1.2 meters and will dry for a week, which will extend the deadline,” Tasev added. If the Metropolitan Municipality does not let the traffic go under the axis, on September 25 we will gather again for a protest, and this time we will close “Bulgaria” Blvd., said the organizer, quoted by BTA.
