In Israel, protesters over the arrest of soldiers suspected of abusing a Palestinian prisoner have entered the Sde Teiman and Beit Lid military bases.
As reported by Day.Az with reference to RBC, The Times of Israel reports this.
As the newspaper notes, the mass protests were provoked by right-wing members of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s coalition, and some of the Likud Knesset members even took part in storming military bases.
Netanyahu himself, as well as IDF Commander Herzi Halevy, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and President Isaac Herzog, sharply criticized the unrest and called for calm. Halevy personally arrived at the Beit Lid base, where he “assessed the situation.” “The arrival of rioters and attempts to break into the bases is serious behavior, illegal, bordering on anarchy, and harming the IDF, the security of the state and the war effort,” he said.
The protesters were dispersed and there were no reports of arrests or injuries.
