Repression – and time: These are the usual recipes of authoritarian regimes against insurrection. The wave of protests in Iran, triggered by the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in police custody in mid-September, is now in its fourth week. After this weekend, the Iranian leadership, which convened for an emergency meeting on Saturday, must see that this time the demonstrations will not simply fizzle out if only they are answered brutally enough.
