(OTTAWA) The recent occupation of Ottawa by anti-government protesters has changed Canada, says Governor General Mary Simon. However, she remains optimistic about the future.

According to her, Canadians will be able to come together again.
In an interview with The Canadian Press, Mr.me Simon says she is very saddened by recent events that have rocked the country, including the desecration of the National War Memorial and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

She argues that different opinions and experiences make Canada a stronger country, as long as everyone remains respectful of one another. Mme Simon agrees that Canadians will need to pay more attention to this in the coming months, if not years.
Some protest organizers had called on the Governor General and the Senate to compel the federal government to lift restrictions aimed at combating the COVID-19 pandemic.
Some saw this as a call to overthrow the Trudeau government.
Mme Simon says you don’t overthrow governments by force in Canada.
