Next December 14th it will be performed at the Condeduque Contemporary Culture Center (Madrid), PROTO (N1806), by Janet Novás. Piece that is part of the Supernova Festival programming.

Janet Novas dancer, performer, choreographer and teacher. She has resided in Barcelona since 2020. She trained in contemporary dance between Madrid, Brussels and Berlin. In 2007 she began to create and develop her own solo projects. Her work is built from observation, experience and dialogue with her body as the main tool, betting on her own language, molding the emotional content and aesthetic simplicity that characterize her work.

She has received several awards, including the 2021 Ojo Crítico Award from RNE, the 2021 Catalan Critics Award for best dancer and the 2011 Injuve Award. Her creations have been presented at different national and international festivals such as Rencontres Chorégraphiques, Festival de Marseille, Festival Nouvelles-Pole Sud, Cement Festival, Dansa en Tránsito, Autumn Festival and the Bad Festival among others. She is currently an associated artist at the Graner Centro de Creació with her new project “Proto (SN1806)”. Janet Novás alternates her work as a dancer and creator with that of a teacher, teaching classes and workshops in different centers in Spain, Europe, Latin America and Asia.

When I saw this Galician professional on stage, I found myself facing an “untamed beast”, which is not worth bothering with classifying or predicting what her next moves will be. The creations of Janet Novas They refer me to something as ancient as it is avant-garde, since their body acts as a catalyst to invoke that which has defined us to this day. To this extent, sometimes it is indecipherable, at other times it takes you ahead due to its frontality.

I have been wanting to see one of his works again for some time after being fascinated by Mercedes plus me. Piece that has represented hand in hand with Mercedes Peon, who knew how to encourage Janet Novás with her music to expand on the role that her Galician roots have in her dance, and by extension, as a human being. Therefore, I am eager to know PROTO (N1806). For now, I give you the synopsis:

“PROTO (SN1806) takes the phenomenon of supernovae as its starting point. What if we get together and let ourselves die and explode and then see what other imaginaries appear? We are interested in and challenged by these experiences of heat, explosion, visibility of the different layers that make up us, luminosity, death, enrichment of space and formation of new systems. How can we explode together and generate new, more collective, brighter and less catastrophic scenarios? Experiencing this “last hurray” together and creating new ways of being in community. Because every end has a beginning. A journey from the earthly to the most astral. A space that gives us back the integrity and strength of collective warmth. PROTO (SN1806) is an open proposal, which invites other production times. PROTO (SN1806) is proposed as a space to grow and open, to inhabit the not knowing that we know without fear.”
