The peculiarity of the new wave of coronavirus cases is that it leads to a sharp increase in the load on polyclinics, not hospitals, because COVID-19 is now relatively easy, Denis Protsenko, head physician of hospital No. 40 in Kommunarka, said.

“We note with colleagues that a feature of the new wave of morbidity, where omicron becomes dominant, is an increase in the load on the primary outpatient link. The relatively mild course of the disease, hospital admissions are not growing at such an explosive pace, and the majority of patients are being treated by therapists, ”said Protsenko.

Earlier, Deputy Mayor of Moscow Anastasia Rakova said that about 80% of newly diagnosed cases of coronavirus infection in Moscow are of the Omicron strain. Over 90% of patients with coronavirus in the capital are treated on an outpatient basis, the number of hospitalizations remains stable. Rakova also noted that the capital has a large supply of temporary bed capacity, which, if necessary, will be put into operation.

An increase in the incidence of coronavirus in Russia has been observed since January 11. The daily increase in the incidence is breaking records for the sixth day in a row – on January 28, 98,040 cases of infection were detected. The level of herd immunity to coronavirus in Russia is 64.4% with a goal of 80%.
