Conakry: Equatorial Guinea reacts to ship detention. Vice President Teddy Ngema said he was proud of the move. Meanwhile, the International Tribunal confirmed Heroic Indun’s complaint against Equatorial Guinea for the detention of the ship’s crew. The tribunal will consider the case within 15 days. The judgment in the case will be given within 14 days after the conclusion of the hearing.

The company of Heroic Idun has approached the international tribunal in Germany to resolve maritime disputes. The complaint was filed alleging that Equatorial Guinea is illegally detaining the workers. The company had earlier approached the Federal Court of Nigeria against the move to seize the vessel.

Fifteen Indians, including Malayalis, were kept in the Equatorial Guinea warship for five hours yesterday. There was a move to hand them over to Niger, but the crew was brought back to shore citing a technical problem. Now the army has informed the employees that they will be transported through the port of Luba in Guinea itself. Suspicions are also being raised as to whether Equatorial Guinea’s move to constantly transport workers to and from the port while maintaining the threat of extradition is part of a pressure tactic.
