Providing aid to affected families in Kufra and restoring electricity to the city

The Libyan Humanitarian Aid and Relief Agency, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the World Food Programme (WFP) provided shelter assistance to families affected by the rains in the city of Kufra.

The head of the Libyan Relief Agency, Salem Abdel Hadi Bouzrida, issued “instructions to urgently transfer shelter aid to the city of Kufra in order to alleviate the suffering of the affected families.”

The Director of the Media Office of the Libyan Relief Authority, Jalila Al-Darsi, told the Libyan Al-Anbaa newspaper: “The General Command facilitated the transfer of humanitarian aid via air transport in cooperation with the Libyan government assigned by the House of Representatives headed by Osama Hamad, noting that “this aid was delivered to the branch of the Authority in the city of Kufra.”

Al-Darsi explained: “The aid consisted of 500 pieces of each type, including blankets, mattresses, personal care packages for men, personal care packages for women, cooking equipment, charging lamps, water gallons, rain covers, 500 tarpaulins, and mats.”

The office director indicated that “the food aid was urgently transferred to the city of Kufra, consisting of canned chickpeas, tomato paste, pasta, and wheat flour, in addition to 484 food baskets that were transferred to the authority’s branch in Kufra.”

The city of Kufra witnessed a complete power outage due to the rainstorm. Based on the directives of the Prime Minister assigned by the House of Representatives, Osama Hamad, and the follow-up of the Minister of Electricity, emergency work teams were sent to the area to repair the damage to the electrical network. These teams were able to restore electricity to the main station in the city, and restore electricity to large parts of the residential neighborhoods.
