BOLZANO. At the press conference at Palazzo Widmann, the school year data were presented, with directors Gullotta and Tschennet and director Ploner. Below are the numbers for Italian, German and Ladin schools.

Italian language
A total of 22,078 South Tyrolean pupils (6,193 primary school, 4,192 lower secondary school, 7,137 upper secondary school and 1,255 vocational school) attended an Italian-language school, in addition to the 3,301 children enrolled in nursery school.

  • The percentage of students who pass is over 98 percent in the first cycle of education and between 76.8 and 81.5 percent in secondary schools and vocational schools.
  • 1,359 candidates passed the final state exam of the first cycle (the third year of middle school, of which: 46 with 10 and 70 with ten cum laude), 99.6 percent of those admitted.
  • 99.5 percent passed the final secondary school leaving exam and the professional leaving exam: 81 students with top marks (100), 11 of whom with honors.

German language
German-language schools in South Tyrol had 53,447 pupils in the year just ended. Of the 20,642 primary school pupils, 99.6 percent were promoted to the next grade, while the promotion rate for the 12,281 secondary school pupils was 98.5 percent.

  • 3,948 students successfully passed the third-grade state exam, 79 of whom with a grade of “ten with honors.” 0.8 percent were not admitted to the final exam, 0.05 percent did not take the exam, and 0.35 percent of third-grade students did not pass it.
  • Of the 12,520 secondary school students, 86 percent passed, 5.6 percent did not pass, and 8.4 percent will have to make up some subjects in September.
  • A total of 97.06 percent of admitted students passed the state exam (maturità), 18 of them with a grade of “100 cum laude”.
  • 2.07 percent were not admitted, 0.11 percent did not take the exam and only 0.76 percent failed it.

Ladin language

2,352 children and young people attended a Ladin-language school: 1,174 primary school pupils, 661 secondary school pupils and 517 high school and vocational school students.

The promotion rate is in line with the percentages of Italian and German schools (99 percent in primary and secondary schools, 87 percent in secondary schools, 82 percent in vocational schools). 96 percent (104 students) passed the final exam.
