This meeting, chaired by the governor of the province, Adil El Maliki, in the presence of the Director General of the National Agency for the Development of Oasis Zones and Argan (ANDZOA), Latifa Yaakoubi, was an opportunity to shed light on the achievements made in this sector as well as the prospects for its development and the vision of its restructuring upstream during the coming years.
Opening the proceedings of this meeting, Mr. El Maliki highlighted the achievements and efforts made in recent years for the development of this sector across the province, expressing his optimism regarding the positive impact of these actions in the coming years.
After highlighting the promising prospects of this sector which constitutes an undeniable wealth of this part of the national territory, he took the opportunity to insist on the importance of rationalizing water consumption in the agricultural sector, particularly in the context of the water stress that Morocco is currently experiencing, recalling the various measures undertaken in this direction and the content of the governor’s decree issued for this purpose.
For her part, Ms. Yaacoubi indicated that this meeting was an opportunity to present the state of the argan sector at the provincial level and to discuss the constraints facing this production chain, welcoming the serious debate that marked this meeting.
In a statement to MAP, she explained that there was also talk of proposing a roadmap to further develop this sector, create employment opportunities and generate added value at the provincial level, stressing that the ultimate goal is that the programs developed are implemented as soon as possible for the sustainable development of this vital sector.
For his part, the regional director of agriculture in Marrakech-Safi, Abdelaziz Bousraref, highlighted the importance of the results of the achievements made in this sector, noting that 3,000 hectares have been planted with agricultural argan trees in the province, knowing that the total area programmed on a national scale amounts to 10,000 hectares.
The actions carried out also focused on the support and distribution of equipment for the benefit of cooperatives active in the field in order to enable them to strengthen their production and improve the quality of their products, he added in a similar statement, noting that a new inclusive vision has been put in place by ANDZOA for the restructuring of the sector.
As for the various speakers, including heads of external services and elected officials, they welcomed the efforts made for the development of this strategic sector, whose contribution in terms of added value for local socio-economic development is no longer in doubt.
This meeting was punctuated by comprehensive presentations focusing on the assessment of the achievements made in the argan sector in the province by the various stakeholders (ANDZOA, provincial directorate of agriculture, provincial directorate of the National Agency for Water and Forests, National Initiative for Human Development), “the mobilization of collective lands for the benefit of investment in the agricultural sector at the provincial level: the projects for planting and developing the vital perimeter of argan as a model” and “the vision of restructuring upstream of the sector” during the coming years.
