Proximus Upgrades Fiber Customers to Symmetric Internet Speeds

Proximus is upgrading residential and business fiber connections to symmetric speeds automatically for existing customers over the coming weeks, while new subscribers will receive the increased speeds immediately upon activation.

By aligning upload and download rates, the company aims to better support modern digital habits, such as cloud collaboration, video conferencing, and high-volume content sharing.

Jim Casteele, Chief Consumer Market & AI Officer at Proximus, said that with the introduction of symmetric speeds across all of our fiber subscriptions, our customers can now send data just as quickly as they receive it.

For the average user, this means that time-intensive tasks like backing up large files to the cloud or participating in high-definition video calls will become more efficient. Proximus noted that while download speeds remain critical for streaming and file retrieval, the increased upload capacity addresses a specific bottleneck for professional and personal productivity.

Operator Reconfigures Speed Tiers for Residential and Business Plans

The speed adjustments vary by plan, affecting both residential and professional customers. According to the operator, the changes apply to standard fiber subscriptions as well as those bundled within Flex+ packages.

Subscription Plan Previous Speeds (Down/Up) New Speeds (Down/Up)
Internet Go Fiber 150/30 Mbps 250/250 Mbps
Internet Mega Fiber 500/100 Mbps 600/600 Mbps
Internet Giga Fiber 2 Gbps/200 Mbps 2 Gbps/2 Gbps
Flex+ Mega Fiber 500/500 Mbps 600/600 Mbps

Small businesses and independent professionals will see similar performance improvements. Business Internet Giga Fiber, for instance, will be upgraded to 2.5 Gbps for both upload and download, replacing the previous 500 Mbps upload limit. Customers who are currently unable to access fiber technology remain restricted to a maximum of 100 Mbps download and 30 Mbps upload, despite these plans being priced similarly to the faster fiber alternatives.

Proximus Migrates Customers to Faster Speeds Automatically

Existing customers do not need to take any action to receive these upgrades. The company confirmed that the transition will happen behind the scenes, with clients being migrated to the new speed profiles in the coming weeks. New customers signing up for these services starting in November will have access to the faster rates immediately.

According to Proximus in its official news announcement, all customers with these subscriptions will switch progressively and entirely automatically to the new speeds over the coming weeks. Customers therefore do not need to take any steps and will automatically benefit from this speed increase.

This network improvement is part of a strategy to expand fiber availability across Belgium. As of June 2026, the provider reported that more than 2.75 million homes and businesses—roughly 43% of the Belgian population—had access to its fiber network. The company anticipates that recent infrastructure collaborations, including agreements with Telenet in Flanders and Orange in Wallonia, will accelerate deployment further in the coming years.
