Sony PS5 Beta Update Enables Simultaneous DualSense Controller Pairing Across Multiple Devices
Sony is streamlining the gaming experience with a new PS5 system update currently in beta, allowing users to connect a single DualSense controller to up to four devices simultaneously. This feature promises a more fluid transition between gaming platforms, addressing a long-standing pain point for players who utilize multiple devices.
The update, detailed in a recent company release, builds upon the DualSense controller’s existing multi-device compatibility. Sony has long emphasized the controller’s ability to function seamlessly with the PS5 console, as well as PC, Mac, and smartphones. This beta aims to fully realize that versatility, eliminating the need for repeated pairing.
Eliminating Pairing Hassles for Modern Gamers
In practice, this means players will no longer be forced to re-pair their controller when switching between their PS5, a personal computer, and mobile devices used for remote play. According to a company spokesperson, this is “an important step towards a more fluid and flexible gaming experience.” The update directly tackles the friction of constantly disconnecting and reconnecting, a common frustration for gamers who leverage multiple platforms.
How to Pair Your DualSense Controller with Multiple Devices
The pairing process is designed to be straightforward. To assign a device, players must simultaneously press the PS button and one of the four action keys – Triangle, Circle, Cross, or Square – and hold the combination for at least five seconds. The controller’s light bar and player indicator will flash twice to confirm the assignment. It is crucial to disconnect any USB cable before initiating the pairing process.
Transitioning between devices is equally simple. Once configured, users can simply power on the desired device and press the PS key alongside the corresponding action button for three seconds to switch connections.
Limited Beta Rollout, Wider Release Imminent
Currently, this functionality is exclusive to users participating in the beta program in select countries. However, Sony has confirmed that a global release of the update is anticipated in the coming months. While a specific date has not been announced, the company appears committed to bringing this convenience to all PS5 owners.
This update underscores Sony’s continued investment in enhancing the user experience beyond the console itself, recognizing the increasingly multi-platform nature of modern gaming.
