The announcement delivers an early gift to fans ahead of the Evolution Championship Series (Evo) 2025.

A New Controller for a New Generation of Fighters

Previously known as Project Defiant, the FlexStrike represents Sony’s commitment to the fighting game community. A company release detailed the controller’s development, emphasizing a focus on precision and responsiveness. The FlexStrike is designed to provide a premium arcade experience for both casual players and competitive professionals.

The controller will offer seamless connectivity with both the PlayStation 5 and Windows PC, supporting both wired and wireless connections via PlayStation Link. Sony promises low latency across both connection types, crucial for competitive play. Recognizing the needs of tournament attendees, the company will also offer a dedicated sling carry case for easy transport.

Evo 2025: First Public Demonstration

Fighting game enthusiasts will have their first opportunity to experience the FlexStrike firsthand at Evo 2025, taking place in Las Vegas from August 1-3. The controller will be on display at both the Fight Stick Museum and the Arc System Works booth.

In addition to the FlexStrike reveal, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls will also be playable for the first time at the Arc System Works booth, marking its official debut at Evo. This dual unveiling underscores the synergy between the new hardware and the upcoming 4v4 fighting game.

Release Date Aligned with Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls

Sony has confirmed a 2026 release window for the FlexStrike, coinciding with the planned launch of Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls on PlayStation 5 and Windows PC. This strategic alignment suggests a deliberate effort to create a cohesive ecosystem for players.

The release of both the FlexStrike and Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls in 2026 is poised to significantly impact the competitive fighting game landscape, offering players a new level of control and immersion.
