PS5: How this new feature will save you time installing games

by time news

The latest PS5 update brought an amazing feature which is the ability to use a physical disc to play a game you bought online.

The latest PS5 firmware brings its share of new features, such as updating wireless controllers, adding Discord and reorganizing the library. Plus you can use data from a physical disc to play a title purchased online.

This feature was spotted by leaker Wario64 on Twitter. The concept is simple, if you have a game installed on your console through a physical disc, the data can be used if you purchased the same game from the online store. This was not the case before, as everything had to be re-downloaded.

PS5 adds a secret but practical feature

The feature was previously available on Xbox and will be available on Sony console this week. But, what’s the point of it? Why buy a digital game when we have it at home? In fact, this add-on can be useful in some situations.

Let’s say a friend loaned you a game and you installed it on your PS5. After a few days of playing it’s time to give it back. You can then purchase the game in intangible form to continue with it. There is no need to re-download them. It can also happen that we resell a game and then regret it after a few months. By purchasing it online, it avoids the download phase if it is still on the device.
