The PS5 Pro will be released in November 2024 and will enhance numerous titles with improved graphics and performance. The first Enhanced games are known, and there is information available regarding the optimization of PS4 games.
In November 2024, the PS5 Pro will be released, as we learned today. It is an upgraded and more powerful version of the current PS5 (Slim) that aims to elevate both older and newer games to new heights.
Corresponding supported games will be marked with an Enhanced label. Sony partially revealed which games will benefit from improvements at launch today.
40 to 50 Enhanced Games at Launch
According to a report by CNET, approximately 40 to 50 games will be patched for the new console at the launch of the PS5 Pro. The respective developers are expected to focus on 4K resolutions and 60 FPS upgrades.
Additionally, the Enhanced updates will bring many other improvements, including new volumetric lighting and effects, a larger number of background characters, and modes that can support 120 FPS and 8K resolution.
Initially, not all 40 to 50 games were named. However, Sony released the following list of games that will benefit from improvements at the PS5 Pro launch:
- Alan Wake 2
- Assassin’s Creed: Shadows
- Demon’s Souls
- Dragon’s Dogma 2
- Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
- Gran Turismo 7
- Hogwarts Legacy
- Horizon Forbidden West
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
- The Crew Motorfest
- The First Descendant
- The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered
According to system architect Mark Cerny, “Horizon Forbidden West” will run in 4K at 60 FPS, along with improved visual cutscene effects in areas like lighting, hair, and skin representation.
For “The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered”, Sony announces a smooth frame rate of 60 FPS. “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2” is also expected to be playable at 60 FPS, which benefits the level of detail. Other titles like “Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth” will similarly take advantage of the benefits provided by the PS5 Pro.
“Gran Turismo 7”, on the other hand, offers Ray Tracing reflections during racing events. According to CNET, Sony demonstrated the racing game in 8K on an 80-inch screen during a presentation.
Games that are particularly supported by the PS5 Pro will be recognizable by the label “PS5 Pro Enhanced,” as mentioned earlier.
Additional Support for Backward-Compatible Games
Another highlight of the PS5 Pro is the “Game Boost,” which not only optimizes PS5 games but also over 8,500 backward-compatible PS4 titles. According to Sony, this feature will also enhance the resolution for certain PlayStation 4 games.
Essentially, PS4 games on the PS5 Pro could show overall better performance than on the standard PS5. At the same time, it seems that certain titles will indeed showcase improved graphics.
If all of this convinces you:
The release of the PS5 Pro is scheduled for November 7, 2024. With a price of around 800 euros, future owners will need to reach deep into their pockets.
