PS5 Update Unleashes Universal Controller Pairing & Energy-Saving Game Mode
Sony has rolled out a significant system update for the PlayStation 5, bringing with it enhanced controller compatibility and a new feature aimed at reducing the console’s environmental impact. The update, which began distribution Thursday, is being deployed in waves to PS5 owners globally.
According to a company release, the latest firmware introduces two key improvements that address long-standing user requests and reflect a growing commitment to sustainability.
Seamless Controller Connectivity Across Devices
One of the most anticipated features is the ability to pair DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers with multiple devices simultaneously. Previously, players had to repeatedly re-pair their controllers when switching between the PS5 console, a PC, or a smartphone. Now, users can register up to four devices and seamlessly transition between them, eliminating the need for constant reconnection. This enhanced connectivity promises a more fluid and convenient gaming experience for users who utilize multiple platforms.
Power Saver Mode Reduces Console Energy Consumption
The update also introduces a Power Saver mode for games, designed to minimize the PS5’s energy consumption. When activated, supported titles will automatically adjust performance settings to reduce power draw, lessening both the console’s energy usage and its overall environmental footprint.
Sony has confirmed that the initial games supporting this feature include Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Demon’s Souls, and Ghost of Yōtei, with plans to expand compatibility to additional titles in the future. This initiative aligns with a broader industry trend toward more sustainable gaming practices.
The update is currently being distributed in a phased rollout, and Sony anticipates that all PS5 users worldwide will have access to the new features in the coming days. This latest system update demonstrates Sony’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the PlayStation experience and addressing the evolving needs of its user base.
