Christophe Galtier lined up a team without surprise, in its usual organization (3-4-3) with Sarabia positioned in the attacking trio in place of Messi. Facing a very well organized and much more dynamic Benfica team, the Parisians encountered great difficulties before putting on a boost and taking the advantage at the end of the first period. After the equaliser, Paris intensified their pressure but went about it too disorderly to clinch victory.
