Paris Saint-Germain defender Lucas Beraldo was called up on Thursday by Brazilian coach Dorival Junior to replace Juventus Turin’s Bremer, who withdrew due to injury, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) announced.
“Unfortunately we have received the news of Bremer’s serious injury (…) and we will call up Beraldo, from PSG, in his place,” said Dorival Junior, quoted in a press release published by CBF.
Beraldo, 20, was on the bench in Brazil’s last matches in September, a 1-0 win against Ecuador and a defeat by the same score in Paraguay. In the Seleçao he will be in the company of three other defenders from Ligue 1, his PSG teammate Marquinhos, the Monegasque Vanderson and the Lyonnais Abner.
Bremer suffered a serious knee injury during Juve’s 3-2 win over Leipzig in the Champions League on Wednesday. According to the Italian press, Bremer is expected to be out for at least six months and it is possible that he will not play again this season.
Brazil, who have lost four of their last five matches in qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, will try to bounce back against Chile on 10 October in Santiago, then at home against Peru on the 15th in Brasilia.
