When the group selected by Luis Enrique for the Champions Trophy was announced, one absence stood out: that of Cher Ndour. The 19-year-old Italian, who arrived free from Benfica last summer, is not among the 21 players who will defend the colors of PSG against Toulouse. A choice which reflects the still fragile place he holds in a team of stars where he is struggling to get the playing time he hoped for.

Not included in the list for the Champions League this season, the native of Brescia was nevertheless in all the groups in the championship for only three appearances (Lyon, Strasbourg, Reims) and 25 minutes on the field.

The Parisian club is taking its time with this player who signed for 5 years and whom it sees as a talent to support in the long term. “He is a very young player, international with the Italian U20s. He has very high level physical and technical skills. He would start anywhere in Ligue 1 but here there is competition and it’s difficult to give him minutes,” Luis Enrique explained at the beginning of December.

At a press conference before the trip to Le Havre, he described Ndour as a “marvel” and then as an “example of what a young player should be”. It is true that internally no one complains about his attitude. Campus regulars emphasize, on the contrary, his always professional state of mind and his good humor on a daily basis.

The young man is an integral part of the group but unlike Warren Zaire-Emery, two years his junior and who has already established himself as a key player ahead of all levels, he is patient, wisely, continuing his learning through contact with the big. By hiring him last summer, the club knew full well that he was not ready to apply for a starting place straight away and that he would need some time to acclimatize to his new environment before to impose oneself.

Paris could make its good relations work

The few minutes he has had to play since his signing could still lead him to consider the second part of the season differently. The possibility of him being loaned during the month of January is absolutely not excluded by the capital club, which could have an interest in seeing him play more matches elsewhere in the coming months. According to our information, all possibilities are open, including that he ends the season in a club other than PSG.

Two tracks leading to Braga in Portugal, and Besiktas in Turkey, are mentioned. They lead to two “friendly” clubs from Paris whose owner is QSI, also a shareholder of the Portuguese club, currently 4th in its championship. Could the good relations of President Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, but also of Antero Henrique, who is known to be active behind the scenes in these stables, facilitate a transaction? The new president of the Turkish club Hasan Arat did not hide in the middle of the election in mid-November that he wanted to do business with PSG, in particular for its young people. Paris must now decide whether Ndour will remain in his team or whether he will finish the exercise away from home.
