PSG: Neymar had surgery on his right ankle this Friday in Doha

by time news

He did everything to participate but Neymar was absent in the knockout round of the Champions League against Bayern (2-0 defeat). He had indeed resolved to go through the surgery box for his right ankle, following the sprain contracted against Lille on February 19 (victory 4-3). According to a club statement, he underwent surgery on Friday morning at Aspetar Hospital in Doha.

The Parisian club specifies that Neymar was taken in hand by professors Peter D’hoodge, James Colder, who has just operated on Presnel Kimpembe after his ruptured Achilles tendon, and Rodrigo Lasmar, the Brazilian team doctor who has taken care of many of the player’s injuries in recent years.

3 or 4 months before resuming collective training

“The operation went well. The player will now follow a rest and care protocol,” the statement added. It should last between 3 and 4 months and Neymar is therefore out for the rest of the season. “Following his last sprain contracted on February 19, the medical staff of Paris Saint-Germain recommended a ligament repair operation, in order to avoid a major risk of recurrence”, explained the PSG a few days ago.

The Brazilian had made a very good start to the season, punctuated by 11 goals and 9 assists in 14 league games before the 2022 World Cup. But he had already injured his right ankle during the World Cup. After the elimination of Brazil in the quarter-finals, he had not regained his form of the fall.

What future for him?

Linked to the Parisian club until June 2027, Neymar’s future remains uncertain. The striker has been injured numerous times since arriving in France. He was often unavailable during important moments, in the Champions League in particular. Paris Saint-Germain had already tried to part with it last summer. But the 31-year-old is unwilling to leave the capital and few clubs can afford his services.
