It’s not just Paris that interests the Qataris. The Qatari investment fund Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), owner of PSG, is in negotiations to enter the capital of Sampdoria Genoa, AFP learned on Thursday from a source familiar with the matter, confirming information from the Parisian, this Thursday .

Already owner of Paris Saint-Germain and holder of 21.67% of the shares of the Portuguese club Braga, QSI wishes to continue its development through the world of sport to acquire “a diversified portfolio”, continued this source, at the image of other investment funds such as CVC Capital Partners, Redbird, City Football Group, owned by the Abu Dhabi United Group, whose flagship is Manchester City) or Silver Lake, which has shares in the New Zealand Rugby Federation .

QSI is in negotiations for a “minority stake” with Sampdoria Genoa, an Italian club which will be relegated to Serie B at the end of the season. The fund also has an “interest” in the Brazilian club Santos, historic club of Pelé and Neymar, but “nothing is advanced”, and also for the Spanish club Malaga, said the source.

These steps on the part of QSI do not necessarily presage an upcoming disengagement from PSG, but rather a desire to diversify its assets and prepare for the future, as well as to seize opportunities when they arise.

Malaga, a monument in danger of Spanish football, is currently the property of a cousin of the Emir of Qatar. Last year, the investment fund, led by PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, also launched its own professional padel circuit, Premier Padel.

In addition, QSI is interested in “opening up the capital” of PSG and “examining the various offers”, including that of the American investment fund Arctos Sports Partners, “very enthusiastic about the idea of investing” in the club, according to the source close to the file.
