« PAris deserves a better stadium. While PSG celebrated their hundredth straight sold-out game before the World Cup break, Nasser al-Khelaïfi reaffirmed that the Parc des Princes had become too small a setting for his jewel, during a press conference from Doha, in remarks reported by The Parisian. The boss of the Parisian club has been repeating it for many months now.

Problem: the stadium belongs to the City of Paris, which would be very greedy on its prices. “We spent 85 million euros to modernize the Parc des Princes, but it’s not our stadium”, recalls the Qatari, before fuming: “My first option is that we don’t move. But the City of Paris is pushing us to do so. »

PSG would prefer to buy the Porte d’Auteuil enclosure, and is ready to spend 500 million euros to renovate and bring the stadium to 60,000 seats (now capped at 48,000 seats). Except that the town hall would only agree to give up the enclosure at an exorbitant price. “Even after several years of discussions, the requests are from another world”, judges the Parisian leader.

Heading to the Stade de France?

There therefore remain two avenues for Paris: build a new stadium, and get closer to the 80,000 seats dreamed of by the leaders to compete with the biggest European clubs… Or buy the Stade de France (which has a capacity of almost 82,000 seats). And this last option could well be the solution, especially since the French government is in favor of this idea, while it is looking for a buyer for its stadium, the daily recalls. PSG would indeed be interested and would think about making an offer.

The Parisian club would however prefer to stay in its historic setting, where it settled down for the 1974-1975 season. The fact remains that for a team that flies over Ligue 1 and aims for the Champions League, not having the largest stadium in France, and being overtaken in particular by the Vélodrome de Marseille or the Groupama Stadium in Lyon is almost a matter of ‘affront…
