Former PDIP Officials Bolster Indonesian Solidarity Party in Solo

A significant shift in Solo’s political landscape is underway as three former members of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) – Ginda Frachriawan, Dyah Retno Pratiwi, and wawanto – have officially joined the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI). The move is anticipated to strengthen PSI’s position in the city, particularly as it prepares for upcoming political contests.

The three individuals are well-known figures in Solo, having previously served as members of the Solo City Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD). Notably, two of them were candidates in the open selection process for a prospective deputy mayor of Solo representing PDIP in the 2024 regional election.

The confirmation of their defection came from Antonius Yoga Prabowo, Chairman of the Central Java PSI DPW, who stated, “Yes, we add three new members who are Solo figures. Mas Ginda, Pak wawanto, and Mbak Dyah, all former members of the Solo DPRD who have long been able to advance this city through the chair of the people’s representatives,” as reported by Tribun Solo on August 10, 2025.

Strengthening PSI’s Presence in Bengawan City

According to Prabowo, the addition of these experienced politicians will considerably bolster PSI’s influence and network within Solo, also known as Bengawan City. “Of course this is very proud. We get three fighters who are ready to advance PSI in the city of Solo. Their experiance and network will strengthen our ranks,” he explained.

The registration process unfolded over a period of time. Ginda Frachriawan completed his registration prior to the PSI Congress held in Solo in mid-July.Dyah Retno Pratiwi and Wawanto, though, registered through the official PSI website on Friday, August 8, 2025. Prabowo suggested that the recent PSI Congress may have spurred increased interest in joining the party. “Maybe this is the effect of the congress yesterday. Many figures, volunteers, even the general public who are interested in entering PSI. And this is not the last. There are still other solo figures who will catch up, but their identity cannot be published as they are waiting for their readiness,” he noted.

Administrative Details and Future roles

While the three individuals have registered with PSI, the party is awaiting the completion of administrative requirements, specifically resignation letters from their previous affiliation with PDIP. “We do not want to appear friction in the future in Solo. So, we ask for administrative completeness, including resignation letters, can be sent instantly to DPC PSI,” Prabowo emphasized.

The motivations behind their decision to join PSI remain largely unknown to party officials, though Prabowo believes a shared vision for change played a role. “PSI is a young cadre party, maybe they are more suitable when chatting about these issues. There is the same spirit to encourage clean and progressive politics,” he added.

PSI intends to integrate the new members into the party structure at both the DPD (Regional Branch) and DPW (Provincial Branch) levels. “We plan to put them in the structure going forward, both in the DPW and in the DPD. But of course through the prevailing mechanism. At present the formation team has been formed, so if there is a change or formation of the structure, we are ready. Just waiting for instructions from the DPP,” Prabowo stated.

Prabowo expressed optimism that the arrival of these three figures will enhance PSI’s appeal to the residents of Solo. “We are optimistic, with the addition of these three figures, PSI will be increasingly heard and glimpsed by the Solo people,” he concluded.

– PSI, founded in 2014, aims to represent a younger generation of Indonesian voters and advocate for progressive policies. The party has been actively expanding its presence in Central Java.
– Solo, also known as bengawan City, is a major cultural hub in Central Java and a key battleground for political parties in the region.
– The defection of these PDIP members could signal dissatisfaction within the party or a strategic realignment ahead of the 2024 regional elections.
